History of underwater hockey in Tasmania
Peter 'Scary' Last arguably was responsible for Tassie's foray into underwater hockey way back in 1975, after assembling a team of spearfishers and heading to the Nationals. It wasn't really until around 1980 that things started rolling along. In those days games were played at the old Education Department pool ('Tepid Baths') that used to occupy a site on Molle Street Hobart. There were no fixed teams, mostly just scratch matches.
Then in 1980, Ron Mawbey suggested they start an association. The inaugural meeting of the Tasmanian Underwater Hockey Association (TUHA) was held on the 10th June 1980 at the Cornish Mount Tavern. And now here we are.
