See below an announcement from Ben Stepkovitch about the Kings Cup competition, planned for October 2020. Ben has asked for this to distributed to other underwater hockey clubs and associations in Australia.
Despite this imminent second wave of COVID about to peak, the Sydney Kings are still blazing ahead with preparations for the Kings Cup to bring some joy to the UWH calendar this year. We are willing to go ahead with the comp pending interest and QLD allowing enough interstate teams to travel to the Gold Coast. Please see below some important changes to the comp and call for teams to express interest.
VENUE CHANGE: unfortunately the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre could not accommodate us with the reshuffle of other super important special events after the initial shutdown but have agreed to put us up at Palm Beach Aquatic Centre for the weekend of 24-25th October. HOWEVER, we can only have half the pool so we will squeeze in 2 courts with no warm-up area, but extend the changeover time between games.
Cap on teams: given the shorter pool area and increased time between games, at this stage we are going to cap the number of teams to 12 teams across A and B grade (i.e. 6 per division, or 5 A grade and 7 B grade etc.). We are open to hosting another women's grade or potluck at this stage should enough female competitors attend. Once we start asking for deposits (separate to the EOI below), it will be first in best dressed to secure your teams spot at the comp.
Please see the updated info pack; pretty much the same as the one sent out earlier in the year, just a different venue.
Expressions of interest: to enable us to plan ahead and assess the feasibility of running the comp this year, can I please ask for clubs to submit expressions of interest to attend to me ASAP, including number of teams. Please only submit interest if you can confirm you have enough people keen to attend who are also likely to be granted entry to QLD with the current restrictions (sorry Melbournians 🙁).
We will not ask for any deposits until the QLD border situation is clearer but with 3 months to go this is about the best we can do for now.
Any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Cheers, Ben (firstname.lastname@example.org)
